8% Es el porcentaje en el cual se espera que disminuyan en 2020 las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero (que están destruyendo el ecosistema terrestre), a causa de la debacle económica causada por la pandemia de Covid-19.


Una disminución de 8% de esas emisiones TODOS LOS AÑOS de aquí a 2030, es lo que la ONU considera necesario para mantener el calentamiento global en un margen de 2 grados centígrados. Es decir, para ralentizar el deterioro, ni siquiera para revertirlo.


Esto da una idea de la magnitud y la radicalidad de las transformaciones que es necesario emprender para preservar la especie humana.
En 2020 alcanzaremos el objetivo por accidente, y a causa de un virus que también amenaza con matarnos, pero a mucho más corto plazo.
Parece igualmente muy probable que, de superarse la fase crítica de la pandemia, la recuperación de la actividad económica impulse de nuevo el consumo de energías fósiles y el incremento de las emisiones.


Hay que tener conciencia de que todas las innovaciones tecnológicas en materia de “eficiencia energética” no han hecho sino ralentizar el ritmo de incremento de la emisión de gases. A pesar de tener pleno conocimiento de las consecuencias, 2019 fue el año en el que más emisiones hubo en la historia.
